Technokolla NZ supplies Techno Gap, a thixotropic, fibre-reinforced technical levelling mortar designed for preparing substrates for indoor and outdoor floors. It is the purpose-built choice for patching, ramping, and depth corrections before tile or natural stone installation, particularly where a standard self-leveling compound would migrate or fail to hold form.

The thixotropic consistency means the mortar stays exactly where it is applied without slumping, making it reliable for ramped transitions between floor levels and in areas where controlled application thickness is important. Fibre reinforcement adds internal strength, reducing the risk of shrinkage cracking and improving the durability of the cured layer.

  • Thixotropic formula - stays in place without slumping on ramps and uneven areas
  • Fibre-reinforced for improved crack resistance and layer durability
  • Application thickness from 3 to 20 mm in a single pass
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor substrates
  • Ready for tile or natural stone installation in 24 to 48 hours
  • Applied over cement-based screeds and concrete
  • Grey powder

Techno Gap is designed for:

  • Patching and levelling corrections on concrete and cement-based screeds
  • Ramped transitions between floor levels
  • Substrate preparation before laying ceramic tiles or natural stone, indoors and outdoors
  • Cement-based screeds
  • Concrete.

1. Will this actually stay put on a sloped ramp, or does it need formwork?
Its thixotropic consistency means it holds its shape once applied rather than settling under its own weight, so it doesn't slump on an incline the way a flowing compound would. For steep or unsupported edges, a temporary edge guide still helps control the final shape while it sets.

2. Can I use this to patch a small localised dip, or is it only for larger areas?
It works well for both. Since it doesn't migrate once placed, it's suited to contained patches and small depth corrections just as much as full ramped transitions, without needing to box off the whole area.

3. Does it bond properly to smooth, power-floated concrete?
Very smooth or cast concrete can be harder to bond to. For these surfaces, mixing the product with Techno TC-LAX instead of plain water, in a 1:1 ratio, improves adhesion rather than relying on water alone.

4. Can this go over cracked concrete, or does the crack need fixing first?
Cracks need to be identified and sealed first, typically with an epoxy repair resin, before applying Techno Gap over the top. Applying directly over an unsealed crack risks the same crack reflecting through later.

5. Is this suitable under a waterproofing membrane, or only under tiles?
Yes, it's commonly used as a substrate preparation layer before waterproofing membranes as well as before tiling, provided it's fully cured and primed according to the membrane manufacturer's requirements first.
