Frequently Asked Questions
Technokolla cement screeds and self levelling compounds deliver flat, strong floors ready for tile, stone and resilient finishes across NZ. Use a screed for bulk build and forming falls, a self levelling compound for fine surface smoothing, or a patching product for repairs and ramps. All systems require a compatible primer before application. Pair with Technokolla tile adhesives for a complete flooring system. For heated floors, balconies or complex substrates, contact the Surtec team before proceeding.
For bulk build and forming falls, use Techno Monokronos or Techno Kronos. For patching and ramping, use Techno Gap. For smoothing a full floor before tiles, timber or resilient finishes, use Techno Plan-10 N or Techno Fibro Level.
A screed is a cement-based mix applied by hand to build floor levels, form falls or create a base for finishes. A self levelling compound is a pourable product that flows flat under gravity, used for fine surface preparation before floor coverings are laid.
Yes. Use a porous-surface primer on absorbent substrates and a non-porous primer on existing finishes. Check the product data sheet for primer selection, dilution rate and drying time. Surtec stocks a full range of compatible primers.
Yes. Select the correct system components and follow the heating and cooling cycles recommended for the screed, leveller and adhesive. Movement joints must follow the designer's layout. Heated floor projects carry additional risk so confirm your system with the Surtec Team before application.
Exterior screeds, balconies and decks are higher-risk applications that require specific design for falls, drainage and movement joints.
