Technokolla NZ supplies Techno Kronos, a quick-drying, controlled-shrinkage screed binder designed for reliable floor base preparation in both residential and civil construction. Mixed on site with sand and aggregate, it produces a stable, durable screed between 3 and 10 cm thick that is ready to accept a wide range of floor coverings.

Kronos is formulated with a controlled setting speed that minimises shrinkage stress during curing, reducing the risk of cracking and delamination. The result is a dimensionally stable screed with an optimum surface finish, ready for tiling, parquet installation, or the laying of natural stone and resilient materials.

1. Do I need a primer before laying a Kronos screed?
Yes, primer is generally required on the substrate beneath the screed. Use a porous-surface primer on absorbent substrates and a non-porous primer over existing finishes, following the product data sheet for selection and drying time.

2. How is Techno Kronos mixed and applied on-site?
It's mixed on site with sand and aggregate using a concrete mixer or pump, then levelled with a screed rail to achieve a flat surface before it sets. Working time is around 60 minutes at typical site temperatures.

3. Is Techno Kronos suitable for exterior applications like balconies or decks?
Exterior screeds carry higher risk due to falls, drainage, and movement joint requirements, so these applications need project-specific design rather than a standard indoor approach. It's worth checking with the Surtec technical team before proceeding with any exterior screed project.

4. Does the screed need reinforcement mesh at greater thicknesses?
